What will your legacy be?

What is your legacy?

Over the past few months, we’ve had lots of time to contemplate our lives and our stories.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has been described by some as a “turning point" and the word legacy is being used frequently in stories and conversations.

Matt Paxton, a NASMM colleague of ours, created a new TV show -- he was the host of the popular show, Hoarders -- and he's getting ready to film the second season. Legacy List is a show about older adults, their families and their stuff. Matt meets with his clients, finds out more about them, helps them downsize, organize and move… and discovers a few of their family treasures in the process.

My friend, Sandy, is wrapping up a legacy project for her Mom, Hazel - an amazing cook and baker. Over the years, Hazel has created drinks, dinners and desserts that have become favourites of family and friends. Sandy wants to compile these wonderful recipes and some of the stories that go along with them and share this very important facet of her Mom’s life.

I've also been thinking about a legacy project to honour my Dad -- an idea that's been on the “back burner” for ages. Sandy and I are having so much fun creating her Mom's cookbook, I think I may have convinced her to help me with something to honour my Dad... and hers too! We are on a roll.

In this changing world, what will your legacy be?
